Effective Workouts for Weight Loss: Yoga, Zumba, and Kickboxing

It is truly unfortunate that when most people think about weight loss, they think about endless hours on a treadmill and meals consisting of grilled chicken breasts and steamed broccoli. No wonder so few people ever begin the journey! The fact is that weight loss takes work, but the good news is that work doesn’t have to be boring. Besides the cardio and weight lifting equipment you find on the gym floor, you can also find fun and interactive weight-loss classes like yoga, Zumba, and kickboxing in Houston. By getting involved in classes you like, you increase the chance of sticking with it and seeing results.
The Secrets of Yoga
When it comes to losing weight, yoga is not usually at the top of the list, but it should be. Despite the fact that yoga looks very relaxed and is certainly low-impact, it actually requires an immense amount of strength and energy which translates into burned calories. Besides helping people burn energy while holding difficult poses, yoga helps increase muscle mass which, in turn, increases metabolism. As more lean muscle mass replaces fat, the body naturally burns calories faster which can lead to weight loss as long as it is paired with smart decisions in the kitchen.
Strengthening the Mental Game
Besides the physical side of weight loss, yoga helps with the mental aspect as well. Weight loss is a mental game even more than a physical one. It is only when people gain complete control over their impulses and come into harmony with their bodies that they can successfully have sustainable weight loss. Yoga is a great way to gain this focus and discipline. As people gain more control over their bodies in yoga, they gain more control over it in other aspects of their lives too. This combination of muscle gain and increased focus is the perfect recipe for losing weight and keeping it off.
Dance the Weight Away
Zumba has certainly taken the fitness industry by storm. Unlike yoga, there is no mystery as to why this workout is effective in helping people get and keep weight off. It only takes a few minutes in a Zumba class before the sweat starts to pour and the oxygen becomes scarce. These classes focus on fun and help their participants feel comfortable and invite them to lose themselves in dance. Great music, exciting instructors, and fun dance moves make Zumba the perfect way to lose weight for people who abhor the thought of the long, lonely run.
Kicking It up a Notch
If you are looking for something that gives you a little bit more of a high than yoga but without the same girly feeling as Zumba, you may want to consider kickboxing. Nothing will burn fat faster than a kickboxing workout–seriously. Fitness experts estimate that people involved in kickboxing burn anywhere between 750 to 900 calories an hour. By comparison, swimming burns 580 to 780 calories an hour and running burns 400 to 580 calories an hour. That’s right! Running isn’t king of the hill anymore, so don’t feel guilty about not liking it.
Increasing Muscle Tone
Besides helping your body drop weight like it’s hot, kickboxing will help increase your muscle tone and give you that coveted long, lean look. It’s no secret that swimmers have great bodies and, the reason they do, is that swimming is a full body workout. Well, so is kickboxing. If you stick with kickboxing a few times a week, you can expect the same kind of results that you see on swimmers. This just keeps getting better doesn’t it?
Perhaps the number one reason for kickboxing in Houston is that it will get you the results you want quickly. Forget waiting months to pull out your skinny girl clothes, with kickboxing you can do it in a few weeks.
